Volunteer Cat Coordinators


Volunteer support is needed in the daily oversight and care of cats being fostered at Catfeine on behalf of our rescue partners.  These positions are called Volunteer Cat Coordinators and are selected in collaboration with Catfeine and each Rescue. Additionally, Rutherford County Cat Rescue is looking to expand their Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program and needs volunteer support caring for community cats.  You can select the items you'd like to volunteer for on the application.

Please Note:  This program is for ages 18+ only.  We are working on a separate Junior program for under 18 and will publish that at a future date.  

Responsibilities include:


  • Monitor customers in the cat lounge to ensure cats are being handled appropriately and complying with Catfeine rules.  Notify Catfeine staff of any issues or concerns.

  • Actively engage customers in the cat lounge, assist and answer any questions.

  • Assist Catfeine staff in appropriately providing a safe, clean, organized, and pleasant experience for cats and customers.

  • Follow and maintain cleaning, sanitation, and disease prevention protocols in order to provide a safe, clean environment. This includes keeping litter boxes clean.

  • Provide cats with appropriate food and water.

  • Provide cats with mental stimulation and enrichment, social interaction with humans, and interaction with other cats in foster care.

  • Monitor health of cats and rapidly identify any health issues and report to Catfeine staff.

  • Monitor behavior of cats and rapidly identify any issues that may require special action and report to Catfeine staff.

  • Transport cats on behalf of the rescue to/from a veterinary office.

  • Transport cats to Catfeine on behalf of the rescue, and assist in their introduction and transition to the environment.

  • Transport supplies from rescue to Catfeine.

  • Provide basic grooming services to cats as needed.

  • Administer adoption applications to customers upon request.

  • Facilitate good adoption matches through conversation and help set realistic expectations of time, care, and financial commitment.

  • Assist with photos and writing cat profiles for use in the cafe, online and social media.



All prospective volunteers must be at least 18 years of age and must not have been convicted of any of the following crimes:
Animal cruelty or neglect, Domestic abuse/violence, Possession/receipt/sale of stolen property, Theft, Felony-level crimes, Crimes committed with a weapon, Illegal possession of firearms, Drug-related offenses, Sexual offenses,  Predatory crime, or any other violent crimes. 

  • Must love cats!

  • Must be dependable and commit to a specific time frame to be in volunteer rotation. 

  • Ability to handle cats of all sizes, ages, temperaments and needs safely and appropriately.

  • Provide friendly, professional,and compassionate customer service with maturity and good judgment

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Prior experience working with cats strongly preferred.

  • Reliable transportation and ability to transport animals within the Middle Tennessee area if you sign up for transport duties.

    • ​Please note a valid drivers license and proof on insurance is required for any activities that involve driving.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability for frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, stooping, carrying, and reaching

  • Social media savvy a plus! (facebook, instagram, twitter, snapchat, etc)
